This page explains what information I collect when you use melhealing.com or book a session with me, why I collect it, and what I do with it.
I'm Raíssa, and Mel Healing is my own small practice, massage therapy and Reiki, run from my clinic in Hudsonville, Michigan. There's no team, no marketing department and no company behind this. When you send me your details, they come to me.
If anything here isn't clear, email me at contact@melhealing.com and I'll answer it plainly.
What I collect, and when
When you book a session, the booking form asks for your first name, last name, email
address and phone number. If you choose an in-home session, it also asks for your
address, so I know where I'm driving to. I use these to confirm your appointment, remind
you about it, and reach you if something changes.
When you use the contact form or email me, I get whatever you choose to send —
usually your name, your email address and your message.
Before or during your first session, I may ask you about your health: injuries, pain,
medical conditions, pregnancy, allergies, medication. I ask because it changes how I
work with you, and in some cases whether I should work with you at all. You decide how
much to tell me. If you'd rather not answer something, say so, I may just need to adapt
the session.
When you pay, the payment is handled by my payment provider. Your card details go to them, not to me. I never see or store your full card number.
When you simply visit the site, my website host records the ordinary technical
information any website records, the pages you looked at, roughly where in the world
you are, what kind of device and browser you used, and how you arrived. This is counted in aggregate. I use it to see which pages people actually read. I can't identify you from it.
What I don't do
I don't sell your information. I don't rent it, trade it, or hand it to anyone for
advertising. I don't add you to a mailing list because you booked a session, if
you ever get an email from me that isn't about your own appointment, it's
because you ticked a box asking for it, and every one of those has an unsubscribe link.
Who else can see it
Only the services I need to run the practice, and only the part each one needs:

Wix, which hosts this website and runs the booking system and the contact form. Your booking details are stored in my Wix account.

My payment provider, which processes the payment.

Email and text, which is how appointment confirmations and reminders reach you.
Beyond that, I'd only share your information if the law required me to, or if there were a
genuine emergency involving someone's safety.
Your health information
I treat anything you tell me about your health as private. I don't discuss your session with anyone. If you'd ever like me to talk to your doctor, physical therapist or chiropractor, I'm happy to, but only if you ask me to, in writing.
I'm a licensed massage therapist, not a doctor, and nothing I do is a diagnosis or
medical treatment.
Cookies
This site uses cookies, small files your browser stores. Some are essential: they keep
the site working and let the booking system remember what you're in the middle of
doing. Others count visits so I can see which pages are useful.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. If you block the
essential ones, the booking form may stop working properly.
How long I keep things
I keep your booking and health notes for as long as you're a client, and for 2
years afterwards, partly in case you come back, partly because my insurance expects
me to be able to show what was done and when. Contact form messages that don't
turn into a booking get cleared out once they're dealt with.
If you'd like me to delete what I hold about you sooner, just ask.
What you can ask me to do
At any time you can ask me to:

tell you what information I hold about you

correct anything that's wrong

delete it

stop emailing or texting you about anything other than an appointment you've booked
Email contact@melhealing.com and I'll do it. I'll reply within 5 business days, and usually a lot sooner. I won't charge you for it, and I won't ask why.
The only thing I may not be able to delete straight away is a record I'm required to keep, for example, a receipt for a payment.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone
under 18 through it. Reiki sessions for children and adolescents are booked by a parent
or legal guardian, who needs to attend the appointment.
Security
Bookings, payments and messages are handled through Wix and my payment provider, and travel over an encrypted connection. Any notes I keep myself are kept private and are not shared. No system is perfectly secure, and I'd rather say that than pretend otherwise, but your information isn't sitting anywhere public, and it isn't going
anywhere I haven't listed above.

If I change how any of this works, I'll update this page and change the date at the top.
